Our Story

A School Built Around the Healthcare Workforce Gap

Healthcare Professionals Institute was founded in Columbus, Ohio in response to a clear and growing need: Central Ohio's healthcare system was expanding faster than its workforce. Hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and clinics needed trained, job-ready nurses and aides. Traditional nursing school pathways were slow and expensive. HPI was built to close that gap.

“We don’t measure success by enrollment numbers. We measure it by where our graduates are working six months after graduation.”

From the beginning, HPI took a vocational approach to healthcare education - practical, intensive, and outcome-focused. Every program is built around the actual competencies employers hire for, not abstract academic credit hours. Our clinical partnerships with Columbus-area healthcare facilities are the backbone of that approach, giving students real patient contact in real care settings before they ever sit for their licensing exam.

Today, HPI offers the Practical Nursing (PN) diploma program, STNA certification, CPR/BLS training, and is developing a portfolio of continuing education courses for working healthcare professionals. Every program carries the same philosophy: teach what employers need, support students through the full journey, and get graduates to work.
Mission & Values

What We Believe

The principles behind every decision HPI makes - from curriculum design to financial aid policy.

Our Mission

To provide rigorous, accessible, career-focused healthcare training that equips graduates with the clinical competencies, professional knowledge, and personal readiness to enter and advance in the healthcare workforce - serving their communities and fulfilling Ohio’s growing need for licensed practical nurses and certified healthcare aides.

Our Vision

To be Central Ohio’s most trusted and effective vocational healthcare training institution - recognized for the quality of our graduates, the integrity of our operations, and our meaningful contribution to the health and wellbeing of the communities our students serve.

Our Core Values

These six values guide how HPI runs its programs, trains its students, and conducts its business - from admissions conversations to clinical rotations.
Student Outcomes First
Every program, policy, and partnership decision is evaluated through one lens: does it improve graduate employment outcomes?
Integrity in All Things
We tell the truth about our programs, our approval status, our costs, and our limitations - even when it's inconvenient.
Compassionate Instruction
Our students are often working adults managing significant responsibilities. We train with rigor and support with empathy.
Clinical Excellence
We hold our students — and ourselves — to the standards required for safe, competent patient care. There is no shortcut on patient safety.
Accessibility
Quality healthcare training should not be gated by financial barriers. We work aggressively to connect students with every available funding source.
Community Responsibility
The nurses and aides we train will care for Columbus families. We take that responsibility seriously and train accordingly.
