How to Apply

Six Steps from Application to First Day

Our admissions team is with you at every stage - you’re never navigating this alone.
Submit Your Application
Complete the HPI application form online or in person - no fee, no commitment required. Provide your contact information, your program of interest, and preferred start date.

What happens next: An HPI admissions advisor will contact you within one business day to schedule your information meeting.

Attend Your Admissions Meeting
Meet one-on-one with an HPI admissions advisor - in person, by phone, or by video. Ask every question you have, review program details, and explore financial aid options at no pressure.

Bring if you have it: Prior transcripts, your FSA ID (for FAFSA), and any questions about scheduling or costs.

Take the Entrance Exam
PN applicants must achieve a qualifying score on the ATI TEAS or HESI A². HPI provides free study materials and guidance. STNA and CPR programs require no entrance exam.

Minimum score: 58% composite on ATI TEAS. You may retake after 30 days if needed. Scores valid for two years.

Complete Health & Background Requirements
Submit your physical exam results, immunization records, TB test, 10-panel drug screen, and criminal background check to HPI Student Services. CPR/BLS certification is required before clinical rotations.

Timeline: Allow 2–4 weeks for all health and background documentation to be processed and verified.

Finalize Financial Aid & Sign Enrollment Agreement
Work with HPI’s Financial Aid Director to apply for all available funding - Pell Grant, MyCAA, NEALP, or HPI’s payment plan. Review and sign your enrollment agreement. A deposit secures your cohort seat.

PN note: Your deposit is fully refundable if the Ohio Board of Nursing does not grant program approval before your cohort start date.

Attend Orientation & Begin Your Program
Attend mandatory new-student orientation the week before your cohort’s first day. Receive your schedule, set up your Populi account, meet faculty and classmates, and collect your program materials.

Bring to orientation: Photo ID, copies of all health documentation, your CPR card, and program supply list items.

FAQ

Admissions Questions Answered

The most common questions from prospective students before they apply.

No prior healthcare experience is required for any HPI program. The PN program is designed for students who are new to nursing - it begins with foundational coursework in Semester I. What matters is your commitment to learning, your ability to meet the academic requirements, and your dedication to patient care as a profession.

For STNA and CPR programs, you can typically be enrolled and starting within 2–4 weeks of applying, depending on cohort availability and documentation completion. For the PN program, your start date depends on the next cohort date and Ohio Board of Nursing approval status. Apply early to secure your spot in the next available cohort.

Many students don't achieve their qualifying score on the first attempt - that's completely normal. The ATI TEAS allows a retake after 30 days; the HESI A² after 60 days. HPI provides free study materials and can connect you with additional preparation resources. Your conditional enrollment stays active while you prepare for a retake.

Yes - and we encourage it. You can complete your FAFSA at any time, including before or during the application process. The sooner your FAFSA is processed, the sooner your Pell Grant award can be applied to your tuition. HPI's Financial Aid Director will review your results and identify all additional funding sources - MyCAA, NEALP, payment plans - during your admissions meeting.

HPI maintains a conditional enrollment list rather than a traditional waitlist. Once you've applied and met academic requirements, you're conditionally enrolled for the next available cohort. Cohort sizes are limited - apply early to secure your preferred start date. We'll notify you immediately when Ohio Board of Nursing approval is confirmed.

If Ohio Board of Nursing approval has not been received by your scheduled cohort start date, HPI will not commence the PN program and will notify all conditionally enrolled students immediately. Any tuition deposits paid prior to approval will be fully refunded within 14 days, no questions asked. HPI will provide regular status updates to all prospective students as the approval process progresses.

HPI evaluates transfer credit and advanced standing requests on a case-by-case basis. Students with prior healthcare training, nursing coursework, or documented military medical experience may request evaluation during or after their admissions meeting. Advanced standing is not guaranteed and requires written approval from HPI's Director of Nursing Education.
