State Authorization & Licensure Disclosures

34 C.F.R. § 668.43(a)(5)(v)
ABHES Standard VII
Last Reviewed: 2025
Federal regulations require institutions to disclose whether their educational programs meet the licensure requirements in each state where a student may seek employment after graduation. This page contains HPI's state authorization information, its current approval status in Ohio, and a state-by-state disclosure regarding HPI's Practical Nursing (PN) program and professional licensure requirements.

HPI’s Ohio State Authorization

Ohio SBCCS Certificate of Registration - Active

HPI holds a current Certificate of Registration from the Ohio State Board of Career Colleges and Schools (SBCCS), which authorizes HPI to operate as a postsecondary educational institution in Ohio and to enroll Ohio students. This registration is required by Ohio Revised Code Chapter 3332 for all for-profit career schools operating in Ohio.

ABHES Accreditation - Active

HPI holds current national accreditation from the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), a national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. ABHES accreditation makes HPI eligible to participate in Title IV federal financial aid programs and demonstrates that HPI meets established standards for program quality, faculty qualifications, and institutional integrity.

Ohio Board of Nursing (OBN) - PN Program Approval Pending

HPI's Practical Nursing (PN) program has submitted a complete application to the Ohio Board of Nursing (OBN) and is currently awaiting final program approval. Under OBN rules (OAC 4723-5), no nursing program instruction may commence and no students may be clinically active until approval is granted. All PN enrollment at HPI is conditional. HPI's STNA program holds separate OBN approval and is not affected by the PN program's pending status. Contact the OBN at nursing.ohio.gov for the current status of HPI's application.

State-by-State Licensure Disclosure - Practical Nursing Program

Federal regulations at 34 C.F.R. § 668.43(a)(5)(v) require HPI to disclose whether the PN program's curriculum meets the educational requirements for licensure or certification in each state where HPI enrolls or intends to enroll students. HPI has made the following determinations as of the date shown above. These determinations are based on the program's designed curriculum, clock hours, and clinical components — they are not final until Ohio Board of Nursing approval is received.

Note: Because HPI's PN program is currently pending OBN approval, all determinations below are based on program design analysis and are subject to revision upon receipt of final OBN approval. Prospective students who intend to practice nursing in any state other than Ohio are strongly encouraged to contact the Board of Nursing in their intended state of practice to verify current licensing requirements before enrolling.

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) maintains a directory of all state Boards of Nursing and their contact information at ncsbn.org. The Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) allows nurses licensed in a compact state to practice in other compact member states. Ohio is a compact state; students who obtain Ohio LPN licensure may be eligible to practice in other NLC member states without additional licensure. For current compact membership, visit ncsbn.org/compacts.

How to File a State-Level Complaint

The SBCCS provides a student complaint process for enrolled and former students of SBCCS-registered institutions. To file a complaint:
