Federal Pell Grant

How to Apply for Aid

The FAFSA Process - Step by Step

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the gateway to Pell Grant funding and other federal aid. It's free to complete and can be submitted any time - including before you apply to HPI.

Create Your FSA ID

Go to studentaid.gov and create a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID account. You'll use this to log in and sign your FAFSA electronically.

Complete the FAFSA

Fill out the FAFSA at studentaid.gov. Have your tax returns, Social Security number, and bank statements ready. Add HPI's school code when prompted.

Review Your SAR

After submitting, you'll receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) showing your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). HPI's Financial Aid team will review this with you.

Receive Your Award Letter

HPI will issue a Financial Aid Award Letter showing your Pell Grant amount and any other aid. Awards are applied directly to your tuition balance each semester.

FAFSA Opens Every October

Apply as early as possible - aid is disbursed based on when your file is complete, not when you apply. HPI's Financial Aid Director will walk you through the entire process at no cost.
FAQ

Tuition & Aid Questions

The most common financial questions from prospective HPI students - answered plainly.

Yes. HPI holds Title IV eligibility from the U.S. Department of Education, which means qualifying students can use Federal Pell Grant funds toward HPI tuition. The Pell Grant is based on financial need as determined by your FAFSA. Students who qualify for the maximum award ($7,395/year) may find that Pell alone covers the majority of their first semester tuition.

A tuition deposit is required to secure your enrollment seat. The deposit amount varies and is applied toward your first semester tuition balance. For students receiving financial aid, the deposit may be waived or reduced pending your award letter. Contact the Financial Aid office to discuss your specific situation - we do not want cost to be a barrier to starting your application.

HPI's Title IV eligibility covers grant programs like the Pell Grant but does not currently include federal student loan participation. Students seeking loan-based funding for HPI programs should explore private student loan options through lenders such as Sallie Mae, Ascent, or their personal bank. The Financial Aid office can provide guidance, though private loans must be arranged directly by the student.

If the Ohio Board of Nursing does not grant approval for HPI's PN program before your conditional enrollment cohort start date, HPI will issue a full refund of your tuition deposit within 14 days of notifying you of the non-approval. No partial withholdings or processing fees will be deducted. This refund protection is written into every PN enrollment agreement.

HPI's tuition refund policy is based on the number of clock hours completed at the time of withdrawal relative to the total scheduled clock hours for the payment period. Refund percentages are: 100% before program start; 90% within the first 10% of the payment period; 75% within 10–25%; 50% within 25–50%; and 0% after 50% completion. The complete policy is published in the HPI School Catalog and your enrollment agreement. Federal Title IV return-of-funds rules (R2T4) apply to Pell Grant recipients who withdraw.

HPI does not currently operate an institutional scholarship program. HPI focuses its resources on maintaining low tuition rates and providing extensive assistance in accessing external grant and scholarship programs (Pell, MyCAA, NEALP, employer tuition assistance). A scholarship program is under development for future cohorts - contact the Financial Aid office for the most current information.
