ADA & Non-Discrimination Statement

ADA · Section 504 · Title IX · Title VI
Effective: Academic Year 2025–2026
Healthcare Professionals Institute is committed to providing equal access to education and employment opportunities and does not discriminate on any basis protected by federal, state, or local law. This statement describes HPI's non-discrimination policy and the accommodations process available to students with disabilities.

Non-Discrimination Policy

HPI does not discriminate in its educational programs, activities, or employment practices on the basis of:

  • Race, color, or national origin (Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964)
  • Sex, including sexual harassment and sexual violence (Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972)
  • Disability (Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990)
  • Age (Age Discrimination Act of 1975)
  • Religion
  • Veteran status, including protected veterans and uniformed service members
  • Genetic information
  • Sexual orientation or gender identity, to the extent protected by applicable law
  • Any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law

This policy applies to all programs, services, and activities offered by HPI, including but not limited to admissions, academic programs, financial aid, clinical placements, campus access, and student services.

Disability Accommodations

Eligibility

Students with a physical, mental, or cognitive impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities — as defined under the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 — may be eligible for reasonable accommodations. Accommodations are determined on an individualized, case-by-case basis and are designed to provide equal access without fundamentally altering the nature of HPI's academic programs.

Requesting Accommodations

To request disability accommodations, students should contact the Student Services office as early as possible — ideally before the start of the first semester in which accommodations are needed. The process:

  1. Submit a written accommodation request to Student Services
  2. Provide documentation of the disability from a qualified professional (physician, licensed psychologist, or other appropriate specialist)
  3. Meet with a Student Services advisor to discuss needs and review documentation
  4. Receive a written Accommodation Plan specifying the approved accommodations
  5. Provide a copy of the Accommodation Plan to each instructor at the beginning of each semester

Types of Accommodations Available

Accommodations are determined individually but may include extended time on examinations, a separate testing environment, modified seating, audio materials, physical access arrangements, or other adjustments as appropriate. HPI is not required to provide accommodations that fundamentally alter the essential requirements of a nursing program or that impose an undue hardship on the institution.

Directory Information

HPI designates the following as "directory information," which may be disclosed without prior written consent unless a student has filed a written restriction request: student name, enrollment status (full-time/part-time), program of study, and dates of attendance. To restrict disclosure of directory information, submit a written request to the Student Services office. Restrictions remain in effect until the student submits a written request to remove them.

Title IX - Sexual Harassment and Sex Discrimination

HPI prohibits sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. HPI has designated a Title IX Coordinator responsible for receiving reports and coordinating HPI's response to Title IX complaints. Students who believe they have experienced sex discrimination or sexual misconduct should contact:
Title IX Coordinator
HPI School Director
2451 W. Dublin-Granville Road
Columbus, Ohio 43235
(614) 000-0000 · compliance@ohiohpi.edu
Students may also file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at ed.gov/ocr or by calling (800) 421-3481.

Grievance Procedure - Discrimination Complaints

Any student who believes they have been subjected to discrimination or harassment prohibited by this policy may file a complaint with HPI. Complaints should be submitted in writing to the School Director at compliance@ohiohpi.edu. HPI will investigate the complaint promptly and impartially and will notify the complainant of the outcome within 30 calendar days. Students who are not satisfied with HPI's resolution may file a complaint with the appropriate external agency as identified in the Regulatory Index section of this disclosure center.
